Is I.N.D.I.Alliance Losing Momentum? Bihar CM Nitish Kumar Expresses Concern

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar recently voiced his frustration about the lack of activity from the Congress party in the I.N.D.I.A Alliance in recent months. He pointed out that the Congress, led by Rahul Gandhi, has been preoccupied with the upcoming elections in five states scheduled to begin by November 7th.

The I.N.D.I.A Alliance has had three meetings since June 2023, but it has become noticeably less active in the past few months. In fact, it appears that the various groups within the Alliance have begun pursuing their individual political agendas as the elections loom closer. The parties now face a critical decision: to unite as a cohesive alliance or focus on the electoral battle, which demands attention to their respective quests for power, something they are quite accustomed to.

Recent developments indicate that the political landscape is characterized by a growing blame game.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of employing tactics such as using the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to imprison their Members of Parliament (MPs) on fabricated charges and engaging in phone tapping.

Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi has pointed fingers at the All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) for fielding candidates after allegedly being influenced by the BJP. In response, on social media platform X formerly known as Twitter, Owaisi asked in Hindi, “Can you disclose the amount we received for backing the UPA during the 2008 Nuclear deal? What was the compensation for supporting Kiran Kumar Reddy’s government during the ‘no-confidence’ motion in Andhra? How much financial incentive did I personally receive to meet YS Jagan Mohan Reddy in jail to persuade him to support Pranab Mukherjee in the presidential election? Was your defeat in the Amethi election a result of unpaid campaigning expenses or was there financial support involved?”

The ongoing conflict between the Congress and the Samajwadi Party mirrors the escalating internal competition among the constituent parties of the INDIA alliance. Expressing apprehension about the diminishing cohesion within the opposition alliance, National Conference leader Omar Abdullah remarked on Monday that the state of affairs within the INDIA alliance was worrisome.

Politics has recently begun, and the potential dissolution of the INDIA Alliance looms large as all the parties are now preoccupied with their own individual political agendas.
