Atal Vayo Abhyudaya Yojana

The Government of India’s Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment is working to make a society where everyone is treated fairly and equally. Atal Vayo Abhyuday Yojana (AVYAY) is one of the programs they have introduced to achieve this goal.

AVYAY, previously known as National Action Plan for Senior Citizen (NAPSrc), was given a new name and improved in April 2021. It is a special plan supported by both the central government and state governments to empower elderly people in India.

How does it work?

This program acknowledges the priceless contributions made by senior citizens to society and aims to take care of their well-being and social integration. By valuing their contributions, the government strives to empower and uplift them, making sure they are actively involved and included in all aspects of life.

  1. Integrated Programme for Senior Citizens (IPSrC): This part of the plan gives financial help to certain organizations that take care of Senior Citizen Homes or Continuous Care Homes. The goal is to improve the lives of older people, especially those who are not financially well-off, by providing them with important facilities and support.

  2. Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana (RVY): This part of the plan focuses on providing special living devices to older people who have age-related problems or disabilities. These devices help them with issues like poor eyesight, hearing difficulties, missing teeth, or trouble moving around.

Financial eligibility criteria for beneficiaries: To get the benefits of these programs, a senior citizen must either be classified as ‘Below Poverty Line’ (BPL) or have a monthly income of up to Rs. 15,000 (Rupees Fifteen Thousand).

AVYAY shows how much the government cares about the well-being and strength of older people in India. The plan takes care of their money, health, and social needs, making sure they feel strong and included in society. The government wants senior citizens to live with respect and happiness, valuing all the great things they’ve done for the country.

  1. There are nearly 1.5 lakh beneficiaries currently residing in Senior Citizen homes.

  2. The scheme has been implemented in 361 districts all over the country.

  3. Over the last 3 financial years, a total of Rs. 288.08 crore in grants has been released, benefiting 3,63,570 individuals.

  4. Under the Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana (RVY), a total of 269 camps have been conducted, benefiting over 4 lakhs people.

  5. During the last 3 financial years, Rs. 140.34 crore has been released under the RVY, providing 8,48,841 devices to 1,57,514 beneficiaries in 130 camps.
